Dhoom: 2 falls short of expectations
By Arthur J Pais – Rediff.com
It is bigger and splashier than the first film in the series, but Dhoom:2 is less entertaining than its predecessor.
Though Dhoom was unconvincing like most Bollywood masala films, it was still a pleasant package and went on to become a surprise hit in India. Now, its director Sanjay Gadhvi has made a far more exotic film, with a bigger star cast that includes Aishwarya Rai at her bewitching best.

Cut the crap… Cut the gyan… Let’s come to the point straightway: Is DHOOM 2 as big as its hype? Does it meet the monumental expectations? Or is it a gas balloon with a leak?
Yes, DHOOM 2 works big time and here’s why…

BHUBANESWAR: For Bollywood, this is the season of the sequels. First Krishh, then Phir Hera Pheri and now Dhoom: 2.
While Krishh was a run-away hit and Phir Hera Pheri fared pretty decently, Dhoom:2 is creating a record of sorts in the State even before its release on Friday.
The film is simultaneously being released in 22 theatres across 18 towns of the State. To be precise, the film will be screened at least 55 times a day for the next one week. No film has been accorded that status in the history of Orissa, trade pundits said.

Not just bikes, bikinis and nail-biting chases, Sanjay Gadhvi’s movie Dhoom 2 promises a perfect recipe for adrenalin rush.
Gadhvi says he wanted to make a well-balanced, wholesome entertainer that has something new and interesting happening after every five-six minutes to keep the viewers absolutely glued to the screen.
Made at almost three times the budget of Dhoom , the sequel features some stunts and actions hitherto unseen in Indian cinema. And all these stunts have been done by the actors themselves.

Handsome guys, gorgeous ladies, beautiful locations, excellent cinematography, good action sequences and excellent performances from the lead actors make Dhoom: 2 a good entertainer.
The movie has all the ingredients for an entertainer. You might question the logic behind some of the sequences, but movies are there to entertain you and you would just enjoy the two and a half hours – it is just fun.

SPOILER
Yash Raj Films is known for their publicity gimmicks, and it seems we’re not going to be disappointed this time either. So even though producer Aditya Chopra may have his stars sign confidentiality contracts and guard his film’s secrets with his life, juicy details are bound to slip out.
Like the rumour that John Abraham is definitely making an appearance at the end of Dhoom 2. A spate of SMSes have been doing the rounds about this ‘fact’, and one bizarre version even claims that Hrithik Roshan will pull off his mask in the end to reveal his true identity — Kabir (aka John)!
Another version goes that Abhishek Bachchan has a very small role to play as inspector Jai Dixit, and he’s got barely any scenes in the film. Of course, this one is something that very few will believe.
But nevertheless, it’s definitely a good way to create buzz for a film, especially when sequels and remakes are far from sparkling at the box office!
